SLEEPOVER AT THE MUSEUM (30')
2019
3 Fl, 2 Ob, 3 Cl, 2 Bsn, 4 Hn, 3 Tpt, 3 Tbn, Tuba, Timp, 3 Percussion, Harp, Piano/Celeste, Strings, Narrator Named a 2020 International Literacy Association CBC Children's Choice Title. Premiered by the Miami Symphony and later performed by the New York Philharmonic with narrator Jamie Bernstein, Missoula Symphony Orchestra (semi-staged), and at the Festival Napa Valley.
The story [of Sleepover at the Museum] is charming and the music accessible and imaginative. With many of the musical illustrations referencing some of the great composers of the past—Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns, or Mussorgsky—LeFrak’s composition retained a sense of purity and simplicity that was fitting to its young target audience. She succeeded in capturing the features of each scavenger hunt clue with clever instrumentation and musical motives.
