Interview on Digital Journal: Karen LeFrak talks about her new musical project ‘American Promise’

Markos Papadatos (Digital Journal)

American composer Karen LeFrak chatted about her new musical project “American Promise.”

Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Karen LeFrak wrote American Promise as a reflection on the strength and endurance of the nation—its ongoing fight for liberty and the deep gratitude shared for the opportunities and freedoms it represents.

How did “American Promise” come about?

The National Symphony Orchestra came to me to write a piece in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

I loved how it turned out so I decided to create an album adding two more pieces to celebrate our nation’s momentous anniversary.

What inspires your music and songwriting?

My music is generally emotion driven. It begins with a melody worked through on piano. Later, it might be arranged for a group of other instruments.
